Application Information
Eligibility Requirements
Volunteers must be graduate students or postdoctoral fellows in chemistry, geology, physics, biological sciences, biomedical engineering, mathematics, chemical engineering, environmental engineering, biomedical sciences, or environmental science enrolled at Vanderbilt University, Meharry Medical College, Tennessee State University, or Fisk University. The Volunteer Scientist-in-the Classroom Partnership is designed to accommodate volunteers with flexible schedules.
Time Commitment
The conditions of the program require volunteers to spend a minimum of one full hour per month in a 5th – 8th grade classroom providing direct assistance to an assigned science teacher. Volunteers are required to attend a two-hour orientation designed to address the specific needs of the volunteers and the partnership.

Submission Materials Include:
- Completed application.
- Completed Statement of Intent (one or two paragraphs) describing why you would like to volunteer in a science classroom and what you hope to accomplish.
- Recommendation from one of the above listed representatives of the participating organizations.
